General League Guidelines

1. All spectators at games at Martinsville Middle School must be seated in the bleachers for safety purposes. There will be no spectators allowed to stand underneath goals, on the sidelines with the teams or cheerleaders, near the scoreboard or by the doors. I understand if myself, or anyone in company to spectate the participant in which I registered, do not adhere to said guidelines, I may be asked to leave and said participant can be dismissed from the program.

2.Teams for participants cannot be formed without coaches. If you would like to coach or know someone who would, please fill out the information for coaching on the registration form or contact our sports director through the information below. Coaches will need to fill out a volunteer application/background check and conduct an online training.

3. A $10 registration fee and a copy of the participant’s birth certificate MUST be turned in with the registration form before the registration deadline. No participant will be placed on a team until the registration fee has been paid. The registration fee is non-refundable once teams have been formed.

4. Practice may be held Monday through Friday. The 4 & 5 year old league will have practices and games on Friday evenings at the Martinsville YMCA. All other basketball and cheerleading games will be held on Saturdsays. Volleyball games will be aligned with HCPR games.

5. Practices will begin in January (with the exception of Volleyball which will start earlier) as soon as the kids return to school from Winter Break.

6. Teams will be made appropriately (requests will not be granted due to enrollment process). Late registrations may be placed on a waiting list. Please adhere to the registration deadline.

7. Cheerleaders will receive a cheer shirt for game days. Teams generally decide matching short/leggings to wear with their team shirts.

8. Martial Arts will consist of a mixture of traditional Chinese martial arts with an emphasis on self-defense, as well as exercises to build strength. Practices will occur once a week throughout the season with a performance at the end to showcase their skills.

9. Parents/guardians are responsible for their child’s transportation to and from practices and games. Players will not be assigned to a specific team for ride arrangements.

10. This league is provided for the children to have fun, learn athletic and life skills and have social interaction. As a parent/guardian, you will be expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all practices and games. Parents/guardians who behave in an inappropriate manner will cause their child to be dismissed from the league.

11. Please visit our YMCA website for more information on child abuse prevention, including guidance on appropriate boundaries and the steps to take if someone attempts to break the rules or violate those boundaries.
